So Matt McConaughey did an interview with ELLE magazine recently.
ELLE: Any woman you can think of who might not be coverworthy, but whom you find attractive?
MM: Not so specifically, but yeah. And I see it more with black women, who get dressed up and they’re wearin’ everything to fit snug, and they’re walking the walk. And you’re like, Man, look at you go! Where did you get that? She might be a larger package, but boy, she sure understands how she’s wrapped. Source
The Blogger of this post asked what do we (the public) think about this.
There are a lot of comments here stating that he was being racist and that black women shouldn't be on the cover of magazines, even though they look good. And on and on and on.
There other commenters that support what he says and state that he was not being racist and I agree with them.
So with that said, I have this to say:
Calm down folks, the interviewer really didn’t word that question right, but if you slow down and read it one word at a time you will see what they are asking him. Once you do that and truly understand the question, you want think that he is being negative or racist at all.
Question: “Any woman you can think of who might not be coverworthy, but whom you find attractive?”
Revised: Is there any woman that magazine editors might not find coverworthy, but you are attracted to them.
The question above that they asked him was to cover up their own bulls&%$ and the truth about these magazines out here Blackballin’ plus sized women.
He answered”Not so specifically, but yeah. And I see it more with black women, who get dressed up and they’re wearin’ everything to fit snug, and they’re walking the walk. And you’re like, Man, look at you go! Where did you get that? She might be a larger package, but boy, she sure understands how she’s wrapped.”
Translation:
Not so specifically, but yeah = he knew the question was misleading
And I see it more with black women, who get dressed up and they’re wearin’ everything to fit snug, and they’re walking the walk = I see this happening more to black women, who be looking damn good, clothes fitting nice, and that walk that makes you stand up
And you’re like, Man, look at you go! Where did you get that? = Damn, where you get that bod from
She might be a larger package, but boy, she sure understands how she’s wrapped = Although, the magazines don’t cover these type of women(thick), she has confidence, struts her stuff and knows she is the bomb without the cover of a magazine, and I like it
That is what I take from his comment
Some people read so deep into things but not deep enough, until they get confused.
Read a little deeper folks and clear your minds, get the stereotypes, and negative thoughts out of your mind before reading controversial posts from right winged and side eyed media coverage
